Hillary Clinton is the First Female Presidential Nominee of a Major US Political Party

Former Security of State Hillary Clinton is now officially the Democratic presidential nominee, making history as the first woman ever to secure a presidential nomination within a major United States political party.

During the nomination process, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders — who had been Clinton’s in-party opponent throughout the presidential primaries– moved to bridge the division between his supporters and those of Hillary’s by voting to give Clinton the nomination by acclamation. Hillary Clinton had voted the same way in 2008, for then-Senator Barack Obama to be awarded the nomination by acclamation.

Clinton received the nomination on the second day of the Democratic National Convention — the first day included an incredible, inspiring speech by First Lady Michelle Obama. Clinton’s nomination makes history for females in the United States, who will now be able to see the presidency as a viable dream.
