Stevie Nicks and the Kids of ‘School of Rock’ Surprise Audience with ‘Rhiannon’

Yesterday, something magical happened in NYC. The legendary Stevie Nicks performed with the children of “School of Rock” during the Easter Bonnet Competition. The Easter Bonnet Competition is the spring fundraising effort for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS by company members of Broadway, off-Broadway, and national touring productions.

Later on that night, Nicks surprised the crowd at the ‘School of Rock Musical’ performance after curtain call, coming out in her iconic black chiffon and platform boots, belting out one of her most noted songs. ‘Rhiannon’ filled the room from very talented players, that range from the ages of 9-13, and the songstress herself. After finishing the song she walked around hugging the players only to return to the mic to say just how incredible it was to work with such amazing talent.

“To be in the presence of these kids that are so amazing that honestly sometimes I close my eyes and I’m not sure that it’s not Fleetwood Mac. It’s very trippy. They are so good,” said Stevie. I’m sure the children were equally in awe of having this opportunity. She continued by saying, “I can’t wait to send a tape of this to Lindsey and my other guitar player, Waddy, because they’re gonna die. They’re not gonna believe it. They’re so good.”

The continuation of music education and writing has always been an important cause to Nicks. She doesn’t want the great musicians to die out. But by the look and sound of these young players, she won’t have to worry. It’s important for young people to know the greats in music, but to have one first hand reach out to them and touch their musical lives is heartwarming.
