Maura Horton–Designing Independence

When Maura Horton’s husband was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, she and her family were thrown into a struggle no one is ever ready for. The hardest part is watching someone you love not be able to do everyday tasks that most take for granted. Noticing adaptive clothing wasn’t working for her husband, it sparked an idea.

Most adaptive clothing uses velcro in place of buttons, but the quality is lacking. This is where she thought of designing a line of dress shirts with magnets. MagnaReady has sold over 1,000 shirts since its online launch this past January. Proving to Horton that this was a needed and worth while idea.

Regaining some independence is a good morale boost for those affected with a disability or disease.

With the money she makes from these shirts, Horton wants to help fund research for Parkinson’s Disease. Donating to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Saying “I need a cure.”
