Amani Al-Khatahtbeh writes a blog [MuslimGirl] about what it is actually like to be a modern Muslim women in America. She wants to educate the world that not all Muslim women are oppressed. Bringing to light that they too, like any other women, can be feminists and world leaders. What started as an after school project has turned into a business that Amani owns and manages. With 40 writers and 10 editors the blog has become a “powerhouse for the modern Muslim women.” The site went from a safe haven for young Muslims, to a place where everyone can better understand the culture.

“I really wanted to find a way to help Muslim women, like us, to fight back against how we were being represented in the media,” says Al-Khatahtbeh. Growing up in the post 9/11 world, she saw what it was doing to her generation and wanted to change it. Wanting to start a conversation about what it is really like to be Muslim in the 21st century. Showing the positive experience she and others have had being raised Muslim .
